How do I make an image my desktop wallpaper? You can do this by following a simple process: 1. All you need to do is to know how to save images as wallpapers, and there you go! You will have a wallpaper that suits your needs and preferences. Can I design desktop wallpapers? Yes, you can! You do not need to be a graphic designer for you to do this. That said, desktop wallpapers cannot be ignored, they mean different things to different people. Adding a quote will act as a reminder of what inspires you in your day-to-day life. Interesting, huh? You can add an image that shows how you feel or one that means something to you. Sometimes, people display their feelings through the use of desktop wallpapers. They add glamor to your computer and make it look aesthetically appealing and highly presentable. However, this element comes with a sense of beauty. In fact, you can decide to use a dark colour, and life will move on as usual. What is the use of a desktop wallpaper? Well, adding a wallpaper to your desktop is not mandatory. What you need to know is that these images that you add will neither increase nor decrease the speed of your computer. A desktop wallpaper is highly customizable, and you can give yours a personal touch by adding your images (including your photos from a camera) or download beautiful pictures from the internet. The background of this screen can be a single colour, multiple colours, or some other graphical representations. ![]() What is a desktop wallpaper? When you boot your computer, there is an initial screen that comes up, in which your folders, documents, and software shortcuts are placed.

2/1/2024 0 Comments 1984 honda atc 250r specs![]() Here is our pick for Hondas top ten most influential models. An added benefit is less ground pressure which let the little ATC 90 go where others couldn’t and after an estimated 6.5 million sales in various configurations over nearly 30 years the ATC DNA can be found in every one of Hondas groundbreaking ATVs since. A rear differential was considered, but discarded when a live axle performed better, and although full suspension is an integral part of the modern ATV, Takeuchi's original balloon tires soaked up rough terrain best. ![]() With no other model to go on, Honda engineers were essentially inventing the wheel, or more accurately, three of them. Since this was an all-new vehicle exhaustive testing was done on everything from stability, to foot peg placement, to the use of an all new thumb throttle. Sound familiar? Soon it was determined that a three-wheeled vehicle delivered the best possibility for its ability to operate in sand, snow, mud, and any other slippery surface thanks to a 22-inch low pressure tire. All types of vehicles were examined and tested, including an American invention called the Amphi-Cat® that rolled on six, 20-inch low-pressure, high-flotation balloon tires. A vehicle concept team led by Honda engineer Osamu Takeuchi was formed in 1967 to see what could be done, and since altering the weather was out of reach they opted to create a year round vehicle designed to pick up slack sales in the off-season. ![]() Specifically, when the weather turns nasty for either a day or an entire season motorcycles get left in the garage. Honda had a problem, not with their motorcycles, but with the weather. Honda had started an industry! Now four decades since, a handful of the original ATCs are still running, but it is far from the only ground breaking model from Big Red and it all began with a small team and a dream. Suddenly those that were intimidated by riding a motorcycle off-road had another option, and even British secret agent James Bond hopped on an ATC 90. Other than a few six or eight wheeled amphibious vehicles that found a niche with sportsman and work crews for their ability to traverse wet or dry terrain, it was the cute, little trike, the 1970 model ATC 90 that grabbed immediate acceptance and launched a sport. No company in the history of ATVs has had more influence than Honda. Defcon Blade Works has been leading the global market by selling premium quality knives for more than 15 years. But that system would have let Exley’s chief walk away from multiple homicides, and wouldn’t have done a thing to Doyle until he’d beaten and probably killed Frank and/or his mother.Defcon Blade Works features a wide range of knives with ergonomic designs and sturdy construction. The American system of justice, in its pure form, is without a doubt one of the greatest inventions of humanity, ensuring a freedom unprecedented in history. Was I saddened because the world doesn’t allow for idealist young people - or because I was glad the chief got what was coming to him? Sling Blade was cathartic in its own way, too - Karl, living in his own twisted moral world, could take it upon himself to prevent future harm to those he cared about by eliminating the source of their misery. Confidential left me melancholy - I’m not sure why. Confidential and Sling Blade have the ring of truth to them - only the details are fictional. When Doyle’s abuse threatens to escalate from verbal to physical, Karl decides that there is someone he needs to kill, and he slays Doyle fast and neat with a lawnmower blade in the same calm manner with which he approaches everything.īoth L.A. See, as a child, Karl was once given the chore of killing an unwanted newborn brother, which he carried it out because he felt he had to obey his parents, and this has given him an odd respect for the helpless and innocent - as well as imparted the idea that killing may be a way to deal with your problems. Karl has attached himself quickly to the mother and Frank, and he doesn’t like Doyle’s abusive ranting. He gives an interview to a college newspaper before his release, and when the interviewer asks Karl if he’ll kill again, he responds to the effect that he doesn’t think there’s anyone he needs to kill.Īfter his release, Karl befriends a boy, Frank, and his mother, and is invited to move into their garage, much to the dismay of the mother’s boyfriend, Doyle. The film opens more than twenty years later as Karl is about to be released from the “nervous hospital” where he’s been held since the killings. Mistreated and neglected by his parents - he was banished to live in a shed behind the house as a child - preteen Karl murdered his mother and her lover. Sling Blade‘s Karl Childers (Thornton), like Exley, has a moral code of his own to follow. But by the end of the film, Exley’s idealism has been tarnished enough that he realizes that the chief will be one of the ones who get away with it all - so Exley shoots him in the back as he’s walking away, and seems not to regret doing so at all. Exley tells Vincennes that he joined the force to bring to justice “the ones who get away with it all” - like the man who killed Exley’s father and was never caught. After Vincennes himself is murdered, Exley uneasily teams up tormented fellow cop Bud White (Crowe), and the two discover the real dirt: behind everything is their boss, the police chief (James Cromwell), in an attempt to take over the local mob.Įxley is, at the beginning of the film, adamant in his refusal to beat a confession out of a suspect, plant evidence, or cover up for dirty cops who do. The two unravel a case chock full of organized crime, prostitution, drugs, sleazy tabloid journalism, rape, blackmail, and more murder. ![]() Exley’s naivete loses its shiny edges as pairs up with Jack Vincennes (Spacey), a cop gone Hollywood - he’s a technical advisor on a Dragnet-type television show. Confidential follows idealistic young policeman Ed Exley (Pearce) as a multiple homicide he is investigating turns into something much more insidious. Confidential and Sling Blade come to the same very unAmerican conclusion - that sometimes the only way that justice can be served is by committing cold-blooded murder. ![]() Sling Blade (starring Billy Bob Thornton), set in contemporary small-town Arkansas, is a quiet tale of a mildly retarded man, institutionalized as a child for the brutal murder of his mother and just released, trying to adjust to his newfound freedom and life out in the real world.īut here’s where the films are alike: In their quintessentially American settings, both L.A. Confidential (starring Guy Pearce, Russell Crowe, and Kevin Spacey) is a story of drugs, murder, and police corruption in glamorous 1950s Hollywood. ![]() On the surface, you wouldn’t think you could find two more disparate movies than L.A. 2/1/2024 0 Comments Traded that for semaphor![]() Imagine a set of waiting threads, lined up in a queue – much like a lineup in front of a busy nightclub or theatre. You should be able to drop any of these primitives into almost any existing C++11 project. Since the standard C++11 library does not include semaphores, I’ve also provided a portable Semaphore class that maps directly to native semaphores on Windows, MacOS, iOS, Linux and other POSIX environments. You’ll find all of the C++11 source code on GitHub. They’re lightweight, in the sense that some operations happen entirely in userspace, and they can (optionally) spin for a short period before sleeping in the kernel. Not only that, but these implementations share some desirable properties. A Lightweight Semaphore With Partial Spinning. ![]() Another Solution to the Dining Philosophers Problem. My opinion changed once I realized that, using only semaphores and atomic operations, it’s possible to implement all of the following primitives: I knew that a semaphore could keep track of available units of a resource, or function as a clunky kind of mutex, but that seemed to be about it. They were invented by Edsger Dijkstra back in the early 1960s, before anyone had done much multithreaded programming, or much programming at all, for that matter. I used to think semaphores were strange and old-fashioned. One way to make threads wait – and put them to sleep inside the kernel, so that they no longer take any CPU time – is with a semaphore. They must wait when there’s no work available. They must wait for exclusive access to a resource. In multithreaded programming, it’s important to make threads wait. 2/1/2024 0 Comments Corel aftershot pro 1![]() This is however pixel peeping and I am skeptical as to whether this will show up in prints. as it turns out pixel peeping reveals that ASP photos are have noticeably less resolution and micro-contrast while having more moire than pretty much every other raw converter ever. Sharpness is a single slider and has been the single source of disappointment so far. ![]() ![]() If you enter a Noise Ninja license key (any version), you get much finer control over grain.ĭeacon MacMillan ran some fairly thorough tests of AfterShot Pro and came up for this explanation for both its speed and its rather mediocre renders: I haven’t had issues with AfterShot Pro crashing yet but I haven’t pushed it hard. Unfortunately RawTherapee really doesn’t run right on the Mac. I have some examples from DarkTable to post as well now. On the other hand, if you aren’t as fussy about pixel level noise, AfterShot Pro is a lot more fun and fast to work with. Otherwise, if you are a night photographer I have to continue to recommend Adobe Lightroom 4 as your principal development tool for quality RAW photos despite the relatively weak workflow (in comparison to AfterShot Pro and Aperture). If anyone has any suggestions on how to get better noise reduction out of AfterShot Pro quickly and efficiently (I love what Topaz Noise does but it leaves hundreds of megabytes of TIFF detritus behind each fixed photo and is much slower than a built-in solution). Have a look for yourself (click to see larger versions, click titles to see full size versions):Īftershot pro raw noise removal plus heavy noise ninja Perfect uniform grain instead of blotchy chroma noise. I have most of these photos in Adobe Lightroom so I opened one of them of up to compare. Nothing could get rid of the chroma and blotches. I did what I could with different versions of the built in RAW noise reduction and Noise Ninja in AfterShot Pro. I noticed my train station shots had quite a bit of chroma noise in them. I’ve developed a set of photos and was getting good results until I hit a some night photos of the new Vienna Hauptbahnhof train station. The folded additional panels are only a click away though.Īnother great advantage over both Lightroom and Apple’s Aperture is that native plugins in the former Bibble work directly with RAW data instead of on TIFFS, saving changes out to complex XML files, which is a much more storage and workflow friendly solution than either Lightroom or Aperture. As there is less redundant info on the screen than in Lightroom, you enjoy seeing what you need when you need it. There’s almost no reason your hands have to go the mouse once you are used to AfterShot Pro. There are great keyboard shortcuts and you can customise them further yourself. Photos seem to load faster and I feel much more in control of my pictures, more like they are in my hands than with Lightroom. You can rate, review and develop pictures at all times without switching modules. Unlike Lightroom, Aftershot Pro is fun to work in. On the other hand, AfterShot Pro is actually fast and lightweight. AfterShot Pro used to be known as Bibble (through version 5) before the Corel purchase.įirst impressions: AfterShot Pro suffers a bit from the Java cross-platform look in comparison to the sharp lines of Apple’s Aperture or Adobe’s Lightroom. Might be just the trick for us to move more of our computers to Linux. In this case, I bought a copy of Corel AfterShot Pro during their winter sale as AfterShot Pro will work on OS X, Windows AND Linux. In any case, my company owns many thousands of dollars of Adobe software but I’m always looking for a chance to support the underdog. Even when it looks like there’s sunshine, then there isn’t. It doesn’t help that Apple did break the lock on reasonably priced professional video editing (Final Cut Pro) and visual fx (Motion) only to drop the ball with their Pro Apps at the same time as imposing an iOSification of OS X on their pro customers. There is a single agenda: squeezing us for all they can get while making certain no one else can make any inroads into any of their markets. Everything awful one could write about Microsoft in the dominant Wintel Office days one could write about Adobe, despite the very talented people they have on staff.Īdobe is a company run by the bean counters without vision and without empathy for its customers. Adobe are monopolists abusing their position to force subscription software down our throats as well and/or upgrades on every upgrade cycle. 2/1/2024 0 Comments Easysimbl for mac![]() While it probably will not replace Alfred for me, it will get plenty of use, and I hope that it will continue to grow in the future. I’ve been using it for about a week now and it has been entirely stable for me, and I keep finding new things that it can do. When I first saw Flashlight, I remember thinking “That looks cool, but there’s no way I’m installing that.” When I found out about the 1.0 and saw how far it had come, I decided I wanted to check it out. I’ve also worked on a bunch of my own plugins, polishing them and building the APIs I need to make them better. Since the initial release back in November, I’ve put a lot of work into making Flashlight a more mature platform - building out the infrastructure and UI for installing plugins, building an API that lets developers do what they need, and documenting and supporting all that. 1.0 works well because it’s had a huge open beta. Dropbox did similarly “hacky” stuff with OS X until very recently - it’s just a matter of polishing the code-injection process and testing it widely (which the community has done a fantastic job with). We’ve made it faster, added more natural-language-processing smarts, added the ability to create calendar events, start calls, and a lot more Siri-type stuff - most importantly, we’ve got over 160 plugins online.įlashlight is still a “hack” in the sense that it hooks into the system without using undocumented APIs. People really liked it, so I (and many other contributors) have continued working on it. Tens of thousands of people have downloaded the app since it was launched as a “terrible hack” on GitHub in November. I spoke with Nate Parrott, who has been the main developer behind Flashlight, and he had this to say. Now, chances are much better that it will work in Spotlight, rather than having to switch to Alfred.) ![]() (I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve started typing something into Spotlight in Yosemite, thinking that I was typing it into Alfred because I had absent-mindedly triggered the wrong keyboard shortcut. Many people (myself included) will probably keep using Alfred (or LaunchBar) and Flashlight. Other users will find that they can get by with Flashlight instead. Power users will find things that those apps can do that Flashlight can’t. If this sounds similar to LaunchBar or Alfred, you’re right. Here’s a quick (and incomplete) list of what Flashlight can do with its built-in plugins, to give you a sense of its abilities: start a call (FaceTime or regular, assuming your iPhone is connected) search Wikipedia, do a quick web search, do an “I’m Feeling Lucky” search, search Wolfram|Alpha, search Amazon, DuckDuckGo, Twitter, Flickr, Google images, animated GIFs, IMDB, torrents, Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, Evernote, and more check the weather add a calendar event or reminder with basic “natural language” parsing eject disks, shutdown/restart/logout/sleep/lock your Mac, or start the screensaver send an email or SMS check the spelling of a word reveal files in Finder email files from the Finder turn WiFi and Bluetooth on/off insert emojis speak text fast post to Twitter or Slack create a new note from the clipboard copy Finder paths, kill processes empty the trash show or hide desktop icons.ĭid I mention there’s more? Because there’s more, but you get the idea. Its plugin system also means that you can disable features that you don’t want or won’t use. It extends Spotlight to do a bunch of different things (there’s a list below) but even more importantly it offers an API for others who want to hook into Flashlight’s power to do new and different things. Today, Flashlight is being released as a 1.0, with much more polish, and much less of that first-draft smell. Late last year, it was released as a beta which even its developer described as a “terrible hack.” But the idea was great, and I remember thinking: “Imagine if Spotlight could do all of these things.” Sometimes we see “first drafts” released into the wild and we think “Wow, that’s a terrible idea.” Sometimes we see them and think “That could be great.” Flashlight is an example of the latter. First drafts aren’t meant to be good, they’re meant to be a starting point. |
